Tajwid

The reader renders the Madani mushaf with QCF V4 tajweed fonts. Colors are inside the glyphs (same approach as Quran.com), not painted with CSS after layout.

Open Settings on a surah page: switches for word-by-word and colored tajweed, plus a single translation ([EN] / [MS]). Colored tajweed uses QCF V4 COLRv1 with a dark font-palette in dark mode (Firefox uses OT-SVG theme packs).

Colors live inside the glyphs (font-palette bases 0/1/2 for light/dark/sepia). They cannot be patched in CSS. Dark/sepia palettes retint the same slots for theme contrast; the table uses the light palette as the reference.

Hex Rule (Dar Al-Maarifah) Notes
#B50000 Madd lāzim — necessary prolongation (~6 counts) CPAL index 3
#F40000 Madd wājib — obligatory prolongation (~4–5 counts) CPAL index 9
#FF7B00 Madd jāʾiz — permissible prolongation (2 / 4 / 6) CPAL index 4
#CE9E00 Madd ṭabīʿī — natural prolongation (~2 counts) CPAL index 5 (“cumin” red/gold in DAM copy)
#09B000 Ghunnah / nasalization — ikhfāʾ, idghām with ghunnah, iqlāb, nūn/mīm mushaddada CPAL index 6; DAM groups these under green
#3F48E6 Tafkhīm of ر — emphatic rāʾ CPAL index 7
#2FADFF Qalqalah — echoing bounce on qāf / ṭāʾ / bāʾ / jīm / dāl when sākin CPAL index 8
#A5A5A5 Unpronounced — written but not sounded (e.g. assimilated lām, silent letters) CPAL indices 1, 2, 15
#000000 Default ink — no special tajwid coloring CPAL index 0

Present in the font — mapping not confirmed

Section titled “Present in the font — mapping not confirmed”

These CPAL slots appear in QCF V4 glyphs (and some are used for ayah ornament / leftovers). Do not treat them as signed-off rule colors until spot-checked:

Hex CPAL Working guess
#2CA4AB 10 Possibly ornament / non-rule; mono theme forces this slot toward ink
#FF0080 11 Unassigned in DAM’s public 7-family summary
#D8E9D8 12 Pale wash — often leftover / chrome, not a primary rule
  1. Hexes — dumped from public/fonts/qcf-v4/colrv1/p*.woff2 CPAL palette 0 (identical across sampled pages).
  2. Rule names — Dar Al-Maarifah published legend (Tajweed Quran Colors Roles).
  3. Slot → family — matched by DAM’s color families (reds / green / blues / gray), not by an official QCF index table (QF docs only cover how to apply palettes, not what each slot means).

When reviewing against a physical mushaf, verify a few known cases on /read/ with colored tajweed on:

  • Madd lāzim vs wājib vs jāʾiz vs ṭabīʿī (four red/gold shades stay distinct)
  • Green on ikhfāʾ / iqlāb / mushaddad nūn-mīm
  • Light blue on qalqalah letters with sukūn
  • Dark blue on tafkhīm rāʾ
  • Gray on silent / assimilated letters
  • Whether CPAL 10–12 ever mark a real rule you care about naming
